Recently I was trying to update AVG 8.0, but it kept saying Invalid Update Control CTF File. Well, there’s nothing much to fix this. Navigate to “C:\documents and settings\all users\application data\avg8\update\download\”. Here, rename the two ctf files avginfowin.ctf and avginfoavi.ctf to avginfoavi.ctf_old and avginfowin.ctf_old or delete them. Now, right-click avg 8.0 icon and click update. It should update this time.

This is so awesome!!! While Bush was on his farewell visit to Baghdad on Sunday as the President, he got served! And what a nice parting gift he got! An Iraqi reporter Muntadhar al-Zaidi threw EACH of his shoes one at time, on Bush’s face. BUT — I hate this part — he missed!! I read a whole lot about (stupid) stuff Bush said to save his face but I liked the following best:
“So what if the guy threw his shoe at me?”
“Let me talk about the guy throwing his shoe. It’s one way to gain attention. It’s like going to a political rally and having people yell at you. It’s like driving down the street and having people not gesturing with all five fingers. … BLAH BLAH!!”
“These journalists here were very apologetic. *Some crap said by bush missing
* “
Bush said it was “a size 10 shoe he threw at me…” I bet he must be pretty proud because he’s had too many shoes thrown and now he can make out the size too! Lol!
Best: “All this basically says is we made good progress, and we will continue to work together to achieve peace.” Yea right. Or maybe he’s always dreamed of dying by a shoe-shot(huh?). That’ll give him some piece of peace in the bushy grave.
“This reminds me of Gates getting cake in his face!” — I said this. Heehee.
Poor al-Zaidi is currently in jail. Stupid governments.
May God bless Bush with a hint of brain. Amen.
Btw, the video is out everywhere. Just google Bush shoe and see how (un)lucky a shoe can get!

WHAT ARE SEEDS? – The number of people with a full copy of the file(s) in the torrent being downloaded. Higher the seeders, faster is your download. (A detailed post on torrents later on)
How to increase seeds:
A) (For experienced users… however if you were one, you wouldn’t be reading this!)You can directly go to the trackers list in your favorite torrent client and add new trackers. (Mine is uTorrent. Double clicking a torrent brings up the tracker list)
OR
B) Follow the steps:(Seems like a lot of steps but is really easy and more importantly, fast.)
- Go to the BtReannouncer site
- Click on the browse button and find the torrent on your computer you want to add seeds to.
- Click upload. Wait for a few seconds.
- On the page that comes up, put a check in front of every tracker (the names with check boxes in front of them). Click ReAnnounce
- Find where it says “Download ReAnnounced torrent” and below it, the link which is the name of the torrent. Click on the link to download the reannounced torrent.
- After downloading, just open it and if the torrent was already started, select the option to load the trackers from the new torrent file.
I have tried this and it has worked every single time. And it does help. Obviously, you should make sure this doesn’t violate the terms of the private tracker you might be using!

Many a times when you change your ISP, you need to change the ip addresses etc. I did write a post about how to change your DNS servers, so I thought to post how to change the ip address too. It’s simple, just follow these simple steps:
- Go to My Computer
- Open Control Panel (If you can’t see Control Panel icon there, then type control panel in the address bar and hit enter.)
- Open Network Connections.
- Now, Right Click the connection whose ip address you want to change and click Properties.
- In the General Tab, scroll down to and double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Click on ‘Use the following IP Address”
- Enter the details of the ip address.
- Click Ok. And once more to close both the windows.
Note: IP address is the ip of YOUR computer, Subnet Mask is usually 255.255.255.0 (or ask your isp if this doesn’t work), and the default gateway is the ip address of the server through which you connect to the internet.
That’s it! Your are done. Happy surfing.

MTNL's 3G Service - Jadoo
Yeah, that’s right! India now has 3G service from its very own MTNL. Mahanagar Telephone Nigam Limited (MTNL) launched the 3G service, named Jadoo, for Delhi for now. That means Delhi subscribers can now make video calls and net speed ranging from 256 Kbps to 2 Mbps on their 3G enabled cellphones! There’s also value added services like Mobile TV, Location surveillance, Streaming Video on Demand, and gaming too.
The registrations haven’t started yet for the 3G service, Jadoo. But they plan to start it in a couple of months later. After they launch it commercially. Also, it’ll be cover places like onnaught Place, Sanchar Bhawan, Rajaji Marg, India Gate, Pragati Maidan, Delhi Gate and Minto Road.
I wonder how this network would be. Cause currently, the MTNL Dolphin/Trump network isn’t that good. I hope they upgrade these networks too. Anyway, desi-3G is here!yay!:P

Yeah, that’s true! Now you can send sms through gmail. Yep, right through the chat window. Click on the Labs link, Scroll down to ‘Text Messaging (SMS) in Chat’ and enable it. Click Save. Half job done! Now, just enter the mobile number of your friend to whom to want to message, a little context menu appears sayn “Send SMS”. Click it, a pop-up box appears. Enter the name of the person whose the mobile number is, click save. That’s it! A chat window opens, now type in whatever you want to. It won’t cost YOU anything, but it might cost the person you are messaging for each SMS they receive. Time to get your enemies’ mobile numbers!
But sadly, it’s available for US only. We Indians again have to wait till we can send sms through Gmail.

Simple. Works for both XP and Vista(and most probably ancient versions of windows too!
)
- Go to: C:\Windows\System32 (if C is your installation partition)
- Open gpedit.msc
- Click on User Configuration > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar
- Find the entry that says “Remove Run menu from Start Menu”. Double click it.
- Change the value to “Enabled.”
Done! Now you can do the rest of the troubleshooting!

Well, another common error that we get is this one, “Windows cannot find ‘msconfig’. Make sure you typed the name correctly, and then try again. To search for a file, click the Start button, and then click Search.”
First do a complete system scan before you proceed. It might happen that some virus did this thing.
After you’ve scanned your computer, open My computer, Go to your windows folder and hit Ctrl + F. This will open the search pane. There, Click on ‘All files and folders’ and in the ‘All or part of the file name’ field, enter msconfig.exe and hit enter.
Let it search for it. In the meanwhile, open regedit (START>RUN>type Regedit) (Cannot find run command? Click here). Before proceeding, backup first (How to backup your registry).
Now, go back to the search window and look where msconfig.exe is. If you can’t find where the file is, right-click in an empty area of the window>view>details. Note down whatever is written in the ‘In folder’ column.
Again, go to regedit and navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\App Paths\
Here, look for MSCONFIG.EXE. If there isn’t a key of that name, right click on App Paths>click New…>key. Name this key MSCONFIG.EXE. If there’s already a key named click MSCONFIG.EXE click it. In the right pane, double click the ‘default’ string and in the dialog box that appears, enter the path to msconfig.exe that you noted down in the value data field, including “msconfig.exe” in it. For example, if msconfig.exe is in the “C:\WINDOWS.0\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\” folder, then enter “C:\WINDOWS.0\pchealth\helpctr\binaries\msconfig.exe” in the Value data field.

So, you go to know that there’s something called regedit that lets you change how your operating system works? Well, before you start experimenting, follow these simple steps to backup your registry.
- Open Regedit (START>RUN> type REGEDIT.EXE) (Cannot find run command? Click here)
- Go to File>Export…
- In the dialog box that appears, choose the destination where you want to save the backup files, enter a name that you can understand later.
- Click Save.
Yep, that’s it. Now Do whatever you want to do with it.
Amen. May your computer live in peace.

Annoying. Annoying. This error msg: “Task Manager has been disabled by your Administrator.” is truly annoying whenever you try to run the task manager (Shortcut: Press CTRL+ SHIFT + DEL , CTRL + SHIFT + DEL). Well, this happens when:
- It truly is disabled by the admin.
- Virus
If it’s the second case, just update your anti-virus definitions and do a full computer scan. The error will be rectified.
If it’s the first case, then do the following:
Go to START>RUN> type regedit.exe
(Cannot find run command? Click here)
Hit Enter.
First back up your registry (See: How to Backup your registry) then navigate to the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System. In the right pane, double click DisabelTaskMgr and set the value to 0. Click Ok and restart the computer. This will (re-)enable task manager for all users. If you want to change the setting for one particular user, navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System and do the rest of the steps as mentioned above.
That’s it. You’ll now be able to run task manager again.
