How to change your ip address
Many a times when you change your ISP, you need to change the ip addresses etc. I did write a post about how to change your DNS servers, so I thought to post how to change the ip address too. It’s simple, just follow these simple steps:
- Go to My Computer
- Open Control Panel (If you can’t see Control Panel icon there, then type control panel in the address bar and hit enter.)
- Open Network Connections.
- Now, Right Click the connection whose ip address you want to change and click Properties.
- In the General Tab, scroll down to and double click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP).
- Click on ‘Use the following IP Address”
- Enter the details of the ip address.
- Click Ok. And once more to close both the windows.
Note: IP address is the ip of YOUR computer, Subnet Mask is usually 255.255.255.0 (or ask your isp if this doesn’t work), and the default gateway is the ip address of the server through which you connect to the internet.
That’s it! Your are done. Happy surfing.
“the server through which you connect to the internet”
In most cases that would be the IP address of the router provided by the service provider(should be something like 192.168.x.x).
